INTRODUCTION

 

After several years of R&D testing and development, William C. Schultz and Terrence L. Smith filed a patent application in July of 2005 for a new marine technology, the “Multi-Nozzle Venturi System For Watercraft”, which significantly reduces cavitation and improves the overall performance of virtually all propeller-driven vessels. In regard to  displacement hull vessels there is evidence there will be significant reduction in fuel consumption.  

 

Each Multiple Nozzle assembly consists of two or more hydro dynamically shaped nozzles (hydro-foiled rings) that surround the propeller. This system creates “Venturi” ports, openings between the nozzles, which draft additional water into the area of cavitation, thereby increasing thrust and reducing cavitation. The increase in rudder and hydro-lift action results in substantially improved hull performance, maneuverability, stability and a reduction of propeller shaft vibration.

 

The Thrustor® creates dramatic effects on planing hulls for stability, absolute helm and rudder control. This is the most significant technological advancement for outboard and sterndrive vessels since their inception over 80 years ago.

 

The Schultz Multi-Nozzle System for ships extends the high-performance values of the Kort Nozzle (single nozzle) from slow-moving tugs to high speed blue water ships.  This equates to the greatest economical and performance benefits in 76 years.

 

In July 2006, Mr. Smith founded Marine Propulsion Technologies, Inc. (MPT).  MPT has been assigned ownership of all domestic (US) and foreign (IPTO) patents and all trademarks associated with the Multi-Nozzle Venturi System (Thrustor and Schultz Nozzle).It is the responsibility of MPT, Inc. to make improvements and defend those patents  as required. In addition, MPT is responsible for designing, testing, manufacturing, shipping, marketing and selling to the marine industry all products covered by the patent.

 


Target Markets

 

The Multi-Nozzle Venturi System has two different target categories of vessel use. The first target group is for outboard motor and stern drive boats mounted to the anti-cavitation plate and to the skeg of the lower end. The second application, for  displacement vessels, will be suitable for large commercial ships, as well as other inboard systems.

MPT will market to the above categories utilizing two different brand names:

 

First, we are providing all vessels which utilize either a stern drive of outboard motor and have propellers ranging in size from 7.0 inches to 18.5 inches in diameter. We are marketing the system under the Thrustor® brand name. This category will include the entire consumer manufacturer pleasure craft market, military, commercial and working boat fleets which utilize motors ranging in size form 5 horsepower to over 300+ horsepower. To fit all water craft in this category, the Thrustor® will be available in sizes ranging from 10.5" to 20.5" diameters. The Thrustor® features a unique patented mounting system that is designed to fit all outboard motors and stern drive boats. 

 

Second, for all commercial vessels that requires a hull mount or Z Drive, the system will be marketed under the name “Schultz Nozzle ™”. This includes vessels larger than 30 foot with an inboard motor.  Propellers in this category range in size from 18 inches up to 35 feet in diameter.
